Other Lives |
Once upon a distant shore |
In another time and place |
As I stood gazing, |
Upon the hot burning
sands, |
I beheld a sight |
A majectic building |
That was quite amazing. |
So boldly stands. |
Before my very eyes stood |
It's sides shine of gold |
A truly magnificant
beast. |
As they slant toward the
sky. |
He was as tall as a oak, |
For miles and miles |
At the very least. |
There is nothing finer to
the eye. |
As he lumbered down the
path |
Built for the abode of
kings |
With a mighty roar, |
Or, then again, was it? |
He seemed to say |
As a sentry in the desert |
I'll be here evermore. |
Over the ages will it
sit. |
With his size and weight, |
It's inner ways and
passages |
He was truly king. |
All so straight and true, |
And with his bellow, |
It seems to beckon |
He would make the
mountains ring. |
To me and you. |
For thousands of years, |
It has been speculated, |
He ruled supreme. |
And many are sure; |
One and all knew, |
That its inner
dimensions, |
That he was tough and
mean. |
Can fortell the future. |
While over the ages |
Never alone in the desert |
As his numbers started to
decline, |
It is guarded by a
sphinx. |
He steadfastly declared |
Enter it if you dare, |
The earth is still mine. |
But watch out for the
jinx. |
Although the dinosaur |
The mighty pyramid stands |
Was of a mighty race, |
In all its splendor and
glory. |
He vanished from the
earth |
Treasures it may contain, |
With hardly a trace. |
But certainly, it holds a
story. |
